Its like a soft 3 stars...
I really want to like Book 3 of The Extinction of All Children series, and it does wrap up many of the questions readers have about what is happening. The pace and dialogue strays, but the basic story line is okay. I just couldn't get as into it but I wanted to know what on Earth was going on. Many of the questions about Emma and Esther come to a head in this book but the reveal falls flat. Emma made some smart decisions and some dumb ones but she is young...it's expected. I thought overall, she was a character I could rally behind.
Some of the twists were expected or so dragged out that when they finally do come out its not shocking. Emma continues to be challenged again and again. Will she be able to unite the territories? Read book three to find out.

Extinction of All Children - L.J. Epps
I'm undecided how much I like this book but it did catch my attention. It is very reminiscent of another book with fight to the death game with kids, except that isn't the concept here. Here it is another tyrannical leader making decisions for the populous that aren't very fair. Our lead, Emma, is the last child of her territory who just turned 18, there are 3 territories and she lives in the poorest. Don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything. She is a strong willed, take nothing from anyone type of chick. She knows inherently that the situation in her territory is wrong even though they try to brainwash them into thinking its for the best.
Its a quick read and it is interesting. We follow Emma and her fight against the President. She meets some new people along the way, many of whom seem to immediately fall for her. Its the beginnings of teen love triangles, a rebellion, and bringing a family back together. I think if I was a teen or early 20's I may have been more into it. I liked it but Emma is so bull headed and young, its frustrating. She is learning though so I do want to continue the series. Its 3.5 stars form me but only because I am still deciding if I like Emma enough to deal with her immaturity and the boys just falling at her feet. It's not really believable for me...yet.
I will move on to book two because I kind of want to see where the story goes.

The Devil Aspect - Craig Russell
I can't begin to explain how disturbing this story is. Its fascinating but really delves into the dark recesses of the mind. We are following Victor Kosarek a Doctor of Psychology in Czechoslovakia before WWII. He is a brilliant psychologist who is in search of the "Devil Aspect" in his patients. He had some trying times that led him to yearn to discover what causes such horrible Psychosis.
He is new at an asylum where the Devil's Six are being held. They are the worst of the worst. They have done unspeakable things and cannot be put with common criminals or be released back into society. Victor is there to pull prove his theory with these exceptionally mad persons.
It's a story of mystery, murder, supernatural, and a splash of love. It keeps you guessing for the most part but I saw some of it coming from a mile away. It flips between the asylum and Prague where a detective is trying to find the "Leather Apron". A mad man who is carrying out horrible crimes against women. It really was an interesting book but there was a point...a point where we meet Mr. Hobbs where I thought, I am so not sleeping tonight. It's disturbing but keeps you wanting more.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good mystery suspense all the while hinting at a supernatural element. Check it out, but I don't recommend reading before bed.

Lifel1k3 - Jay Kristoff
Wow. This is a fascinating coming of age story. I mean who doesn't want to read about a rebellious teen in a future where we almost destroyed all of life on earth. That isn't sarcasm, I'm serious. We are following the life of Eve. She lives what used to be California but it broke off and is an island now. She poor and scrappy. She has a cybernetic eye and a memory chip in her head. She has her gramps, BFF named Lemon, robot sidekick named Cricket , and a robo dog with a real dog brain.
Its not all what you think. There are non humans out there. They look like us but they aren't human. They are called Lifelikes and they rebelled against their maker. Don't worry, I didn't spoil anything you don't read in the first few pages. Imagine that! You get this much insanity and its only the beginning. This story is full of adventure, heartbreak, friendship, and betrayal; all with a sci-fi base. Its a captivating read that has more surprises than I thought possible. The author did a wonderful job of creating characters you love. Even with their flaws you love them. That is why all the twists and turns are such punches in the gut You are learning along with Eve which makes this story even more intriguing. All leading up to the final showdown that completely blew my mind, and its only book one. I would definitely recommend it.

Obscura - Joe Hart
This is a wonderfully written yet disturbing story. In the not so distant future we have reached a tipping point. Our beautiful blue marble is dying. Humanity has no choice but to look for a new home. In addition to this we are plagued by a new disease. It targets young and old, related and unrelated. There is no cure...there is no predicting it but once you have it you are done. Its a slow, tortuous death. Not just for you but for your loved ones who have to watch you slowly forget them...yourself...everything.
We are following Gillian a Doctor, mother, and now Astronaut who is on the verge of curing this awful disease. She has her own issues and reasons for wanting a cure but when NASA calls upon her she goes...a tad unwillingly but she goes. This book is a total mystery. From the opening pages to the last line. Its a roller coaster of emotion and distrust. There is the dying Earth, the incurable disease, a new technology that could change the future of humanity, and death...lots of death. Its a whodunit wrapped up in a what would you do. And it has space travel so win win win, right?!
I absolutely loved this book. I was confused, concerned, disturbed, terrified, and happy. The whole gambit of emotions. Just when I thought I knew what to expect something else slapped me in the face. I didn't know who to trust. Half the time I didn't even trust Gillian and it was from her POV. I wanted to love so many of the characters but I just didn't know. The only one I fully trusted was Birk, he was an open book. In a heartbeat I would recommend this book. Anyone who loves a good murder mystery and/or sci-fi should read it. It is by far one of the better near future space travel books I've read, and I've read quite a few. Check it out, you wont be sorry.

The Good Samaritan by John Marrs
I'm not sure what I just read. I am so disturbed by this book. Let me start by saying I got this for free somehow. With that said I had no idea the can of worms I was opening myself up to.
It's a story about a Suicide hotline operator who "helps" people kill themselves. That in and of itself is disturbing. But as we delve deeper into the psyche of said operator a horrible truth is revealed. This person is psychotic. They should be diagnosed with numerous mental illnesses. As the story unfolds we see the insanity that is brewing just below the surface. To everyone looking in they are the perfect spouse, parent, person but to those who know them its all a ruse. Its to the point where even the reader isn't sure what is real and what is a story made up by them to fit their needs. This book hooked me. At the beginning it was okay but as Steven came into the picture it became hard to put down. I wanted to know who would "win" and I hoped beyond hope it wouldn't be the operator. If you love a good suspense/thriller pick this up but be warned it highlights the depths of insanity that lurk in the human psyche. To say I'm disturbed by this story is an understatement but I would recommend it because it is quite intriguing.

Nyxia - Scott Reintgen
What an intriguing story! In the semi-distant future we have expanded into the cosmos. We have found an amazing new natural resource on an alien planet that will change everything, the problem is the locals don't much like adult humans but they love and respect children. Solution, send a bunch of poor "kids" into space to harvest this stuff for them. The catch...oh the catch is they are taking a bunch of you into space but only a few actually get to go down to the planet. Those that go will have their families taken care of generously, the rest get a consolation prize.
So begins a story of deception, friendship, love, and betrayal. Emmett, the main character and story teller is a hardened poor kid who makes the list. The big corp (Babel) is in complete control. You will fight, ruthlessly, to earn your way to the surface. People are hurt, people die, enemies are made, and friendships are formed. The emotions Emmett must endure are a roller-coaster. Who can he trust? What is Babel hiding? Will he ever make it home again to see that moms and pops are actually being taken care of? The entire story is high energy and stressful. You want to hate some and love others but who is being real? You are just are distrustful as Emmett. This might be a story about a bunch of teens but its relatable to any age. Its a great read that captures you from the beginning and doesn't let go. Just when you think you know what Babel is up to something else insane happens. You experience the lies and deceit with Emmett and the hope as well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes sci-fi/space travel.

He was supposed to be with Kaya! They freaking killed Kaya! I did not see that coming. Maybe she's alive and Babel is hiding her...wishful thinking. I mean I like Morning and while I didn't trust her at first, I think she is genuinely interested in Emmett and a good person. I'm glad the "love" scene wasn't done in more detail. It always makes me a little uncomfortable when authors go into detail about 1st times or anything sexual between minors. Yes, we all know it happens but that is not necessary so kudos to this author for glazing over that piece.
I did not see that ending coming. I knew Babel had one more thing up their sleeve but to pit two kids against each other TO THE DEATH is insane! Roathy probably deserved to die but I am so proud of Emmett for taking the high road. For not killing him and actually trying to save him. It showed immense character development.
I adored Bilal. He always sees the best in everyone and everything, even when the world turns against him. He is a true friend and derserves better than what happened to him. I hope he comes back somehow or is in one of the pods headed to the surface.
Vademeer is an enigma. I thought he was a Babel bad guy at first but he is a mentor. He genuinely cares about Emmett & Kaya when she was alive. Sure he gets more money if his kids win but he actually cares. He wasn't just in it for the money. He mourned Kaya. He was worried about Emmett and genuinely proud when he made the adult decision, i.e. not killing someone as revenge...even it it was warranted.
Defoe...I want to think he's bad. But I just don't think he is. Something about him says he is different. Yes he has done, is doing horrible things for Babel, but we get these glimpses of him that make me think he has some good hidden in there. That he is not just a pawn for this huge corporation. I could be totally wrong but I swear he cares, slightly, for Emmett and the other kids (well his, not the other team).
I still do not trust Isadora. She is crazy. She is vengeful. She should NOT be going to Eden. But she was grandfathered in. Babel and their games. Will they ever end? Can't wait for the rest of this story!

Comfort is key
I received these for free to try from Smiley 360. I'll be honest at first I was not excited to try these. I've always used tampons with applicators so this is something new to me.
I will say I wasn't that comfortable putting them in while on my cycle, it seemed like it would be "messy". But it wasn't. It was easy actually. And more comfortable to insert versus the plastic or cardboard applicators, so that is a plus. I don't have a heavy flow but I was concerned about the absorbancy. But they worked just fine. I barely noticed it was there. They worked just as well if not better as my regular tampons but with less waste. Also, because they are so small without the applicators they are much easier to travel with. I just put a few in my purse and go one my way.
Honestly, I liked them more than what I've been using. I think everyone should try them...well every female who is having monthly cycles.

The Fifth Petal (The Lace Reader, #2) - Brunonia Barry
So apparently this is book 2. I didn't know this was book 2 when I requested it. Don't worry you don't really need to know much of book 1 to follow and enjoy book 2, plus anything referenced from book 1 is explained enough. This story follows two times, past and present. Back in Salem in 1989 decedents of the victims of the Salem witch trials try to bless the ground where the atrocity happened. Something goes horribly wrong. Three women die, one goes insane, and a child is scared for life.
Flash forward to the present. The "crazy lady" whom everyone thinks killed her friends back in the day is a suspect in another death. The child, now an adult, comes home to Salem to help her. And the Chief of Police tries his hardest to bring the murderer(s) to justice.
I love the intertwining of the fictional world of "witchcraft" and mystical creatures with the real Salem witch trials. It is a gripping story that keeps you guessing until the end. Who did it?!? Is there really a Banshee? Is witchcraft real? Why can't Cassie just have a happy life? Is Rose really crazy? Is Rafferty biased? What's up with Towner? I don't trust Emily, Anne, or Marta...Paul is sketchy too! I mean seriously the who done it is strong with this one.
I love the retelling of the 1989 case through memories surfacing in Cassie. It is an interesting way to see such a horrible day...through the eyes of a child who witnessed it, among other things. We also see things from other people's POV including the police chief. It makes you question reality. Who is capable of murder? Do things we consider myths have some base in reality? How else do you explain the mysterious cerebral hemorrhage? Honestly its a bit of a mind _ _ _ _ but in a good way.
If you are a fan a mysteries with a hint of supernatural and a dash of romance check this one out. Seriously, give it a look see I really enjoyed it.

Mabelline Super Stay 24 Lipstick
I've used the Keep up the Flame & Constant Toast quite a few times. It goes on evenly
and dries quickly. I love that the color is bright but not overly
bright. Its perfect for daytime or nighttime wear. I will say it stays
sticky for longer than I'd like but once it dries, its dry. My only
other issue is once its dry my lips feel dry, like they may crack (they
don't). I feel like I have to apply the balm frequently. But it stays
on. I can put it on at 8AM and it stays on until I shower at night. It
fades a little but not much. And this is after eating and drinking all
day. I would recommend this to all my people who hate reapplying
throughout the day.

Kauai Coffee, Garden Isle, Medium Roast
I tried this coffee for the first time today. It wasn't bad but something about it wasn't what I like. The flavor was rich and the smell was invigorating. The initial taste is slightly strong but its good. I just found it had an odd aftertaste. Everything has an aftertaste but this one lingered and made me feel like my "coffee breath" was 1000 times worse than normal "coffee breath". So it was good and if I had more I'd drink it but I don't think I'll buy more on my own. But I do really like that the pod is compostable. It makes me not feel as bad buying k-cups.
Chock Full o' Nuts, Midtown Manhattan, Medium Roast
I am not complaining. I was concerned about trying this one because it says "chock full o'nuts" But there really wasn't a nut flavor. It was more like a regular cup of joe. i will say it was a smooth cup of joe. It wasn't bitter at all but still had a strong flavor. I would definitely try it again.

Not bad but not great. I guess I am used to my coffee with chicory so most other coffees don't really compare. I will say it wasn't bad but it wasn't strong enough for my liking. I probably wouldn't purchase it in the future.

Okay, I can usually stomach anything that isn't Cinnamon. I could NOT drink this one. I tried. I really did but something in this actually made me gag. I tried multiple times to swallow it and I gagged each time. I dumped the rest down the drain. So yea I have no idea if this is filling but it made me *blah* so it would work great as a weight loss option....
Cookies and Cream Next Step Fit N' Full Shake Powder
Surprisngly my favorite. I actually enjoyed it. I didn't think I would like it because I am not big on Cookies and Cream but I really liked it. It also kept me full and didn't leave an awful after taste in my mouth. I may actually give this one another try.
Strawberries and Cream Whey Tech Pro 24 Powder
This made me remember I am actually not a fan of meal replacement drinks. There is something in them that triggers my involuntary gag reflex. But I managed to drink this whole thing with only a couple gags. And its not that it tastes bad, quite contrary. This actually tastes very good for being a Protein Smoothie. I will say it is smooth, especially if you use the tumbler to shake it up. It tastes like you are drinking melted strawberry ice cream. That isn't a bad thing. Just one of the ingredients doesn't agree with my taste buds. I drank this for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by how full I felt. I was still full after cutting my front & back yards and cleaning the kitchen. 4 hours later I finally got a bit peckish and had a late lunch. So this was a great meal replacement. Had I not done all that exercise I may have stayed full much longer. I think I will try this again in the future.

Why is this so expensive?!?! I loved how it made my hair look. It was soft and shiny but not weighted down. And it smelled divine. I would love to continue using this but my checkbook said no. Maybe with some coupons and a sale. Regardless, I would definitely recommend trying this.

These were delicious! So crunchy and full of flavor. It was like eating a Vanilla Latte. That sounds weird but it really was good. They were even better when dipped into a cup of coffee. Yum!

Okay, I can usually stomach anything that isn't Cinnamon. I could NOT drink this one. I tried. I really did but something in this actually made me gag. I tried multiple times to swallow it and I gagged each time. I dumped the rest down the drain. So yea I have no idea if this is filling but it made me *blah* so it would work great as a weight loss option....
Cookies and Cream Next Step Fit N' Full Shake Powder
Surprisngly my favorite. I actually enjoyed it. I didn't think I would like it because I am not big on Cookies and Cream but I really liked it. It also kept me full and didn't leave an awful after taste in my mouth. I may actually give this one another try.
Strawberries and Cream Whey Tech Pro 24 Powder
This made me remember I am actually not a fan of meal replacement drinks. There is something in them that triggers my involuntary gag reflex. But I managed to drink this whole thing with only a couple gags. And its not that it tastes bad, quite contrary. This actually tastes very good for being a Protein Smoothie. I will say it is smooth, especially if you use the tumbler to shake it up. It tastes like you are drinking melted strawberry ice cream. That isn't a bad thing. Just one of the ingredients doesn't agree with my taste buds. I drank this for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by how full I felt. I was still full after cutting my front & back yards and cleaning the kitchen. 4 hours later I finally got a bit peckish and had a late lunch. So this was a great meal replacement. Had I not done all that exercise I may have stayed full much longer. I think I will try this again in the future.

Why is this so expensive?!?! I loved how it made my hair look. It was soft and shiny but not weighted down. And it smelled divine. I would love to continue using this but my checkbook said no. Maybe with some coupons and a sale. Regardless, I would definitely recommend trying this.
SnackWell's Biscuit Thins, French Vanilla Latte
These were delicious! So crunchy and full of flavor. It was like eating a Vanilla Latte. That sounds weird but it really was good. They were even better when dipped into a cup of coffee. Yum!

THe Never-Open Desert Diner - James Anderson
This is a very odd story. Not because it is supernatural or anything...just odd. So we are following with the mundane life of Ben. A truck driver in nowhere USA, along route 117. Somewhere that is no where to most but home to a few stragglers that managed to find their way there. A place where keeping yours and others secrets is the only way to truly survive.
We meet some strange characters along the way. Ben is a normalish guy. He is an orphan. He is a good man who sometimes trusts too much. Walt is scary. He is damaged because of the loss of his wife. He is decent but clearly has anger issues. THe brothers are weird but seem like okay people. John, the Preacher, is just that. He's a man of God, always there to help you through things. Then there is Claire. She is running from something. She has more secrets that all the other characters combined. She has a temper but she is likeable.
It was a long story, especially for one that takes place almost entirely in the desert, along some old highway. But it isn't bad. The story is interesting enough, it just seemed really drawn out. But the details we receive are necessary to pull everything together in the end. I thought I knew what was coming. I did not. Its a book I wouldn't read again but I would still say give it a try. It has some action, some love and a lot of mystery. You never really know what's going on. Hell, the story teller (Ben), doesn't seem to know what's going on half the time. But even with the pain it brings, it is a story that makes you feel good. Things usually work out. Maybe not how you pictured but in the end it all works out.

Walt is a jerk. Ben is a sucker. Claire takes too many chances. I hate that so many people tried to manipulate Ben. He is an honest guy, trying to earn an honest living and almost gets blamed for some pretty ridiculous things. I hate that he almost takes the fall for Claire's actions. I hate that Walt and him beat the snot out of each other. I hate that he was used by so many. I love that despite all this he saved Josh. I love that he managed to fall in love with Claire despite the circumstances. I love that he cared enough to take Ginny in even though she is the daughter of an ex.
I will say while I hoped for a happy ending, I wasn't expecting one. Granted the happy ending we get isn't the one I wanted. I hoped Ben and Claire would either sell the Cello and make some dough or just live happy in Dessert Home. I thought for SURE Walt was going to die. Instead Claire dies, basically in Ben's arms and Walt lives. Why?!?!? But Ben ends up coming into money thanks to the blanket his birth mom left him wrapped in. So he manages a semi happy ending but without his love.

All These Perfect Strangers - Aoife Clifford
What did I think...hmmmm. Well I thought it was a decent book. I really did. I even waited 24 hours to write my review to think on it and make sure my thoughts didn't change. And they didn't. I still want to throw this book out of a window....or off of a roof...and possibly stab it with a screw driver. But I won't because its a digital book on my iPad and I like my iPad so no violence to the book.
With that said this book had its ups and downs. I love a good mystery but this one almost took it to a frustrating level. Its a flash back story. Meaning it starts in a present day type scenario and flashes back to the past. But the whole book takes place in 1990...flashing back to previous events to move the story forward. There are a few characters to keep up with but the main focus is Penelope as she is telling the story. She has been in trouble and got in more trouble and is trying to make her life right.
I will say it is a relatable story. Not because I got in trouble but because we have all had to make difficult decisions to protect ourselves or fit in. Pen is troubled, that is evident. She makes STUPID decisions, that is also evident but you can't help but be understanding. She is damaged and scared, of course she doesn't always choose the right path but she is a good person...right.
It was a little twisty...slightly turney and very frustrating. It does keep you guessing for the most part which is nice. I did have my suspicions but the author did a decent job of distracting me so that I didn't focus long enough to say "AH HA!". I couldn't give it more than 3 stars because of a certain reason I can't reveal...SPOILERS. It was interesting enough but I wouldn't go out of my way to read it.

What the hell was that ending?!!?!? I mean the entire book I wanted to slap Pen and say STOP LYING! Stop being deceitful. You are getting a fresh start...STOP! But she always hid things. She trusted the wrong people. She hurt people. I got pissed as a college student but I would NEVER purposefully drug someone. That is some sociopath level stuff there. I also wouldn't have trusted Rogan. He was pretty but something was off from the start. I just never thought, oh stand up guy. I also didn't trust Michael...he screamed "I'm going to be a mass murderer one day"...very creepy. Rachel was conflicted but not all bad. I really liked Toby, he was a good friend.
Pen just chose wrong all the time. I never got why she lied to EVERYONE. I know her and Tracey did some bad things but I really think Pen was the bad influence. She is a manipulator. She had some redeeming qualities but she lied SO MUCH. I mean I get your friend is embarrassed about being almost raped but you tell someone. You don't save her...then lie about everything and let her take the fall for a death. You don't see something bad happen and go quiet. You don't have your SLEEPING PILLS stolen and not report it. You don't like about how someone died. Michael was going to kill her...why lie and say he jumped. Why not say "he was trying to kill me and I pushed him by accident". Its a much more believable story...more truth. After all of that I really started to distrust Pen...WHY LIE!?!?
That is why the ending made me insane. What the frick happened??? She is in the interrogation room. They have her diary and...she flashes back...way back to when she first met Tracey. To the last time she was sort of happy and it ends. What?!?! Sooooo its left open to interpretation...I guess. She was clearly guilty of something. Maybe she was the murderer all along and she fooled us, the reader. I don't know and I'll never know because it freaking ended! So was she really mental? Tracey is dead and can't help her...plus she LIED. Rogan wouldn't help her. Michael 7 Rachel are dead. Toby is probably traumatized. I don't know...maybe I'm over thinking it but I really feel like the whole book was a ruse. A ruse told by Pen. its her skewed version of reality. There was way more to it than what we are told...right?!!?

Paula's Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment
Okay so those aren't the exact lyrics but it is true. I started using Paula's Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment a little over a month ago and really believe in its ability to make my skin look better.
Here is what it claims (and my thoughts):
Protect your skin and reverse the signs of aging - as far as protection...I don't know. It doesn't contain SPF so that's not the protection. So if you wear this during the day be sure to add an SPF face lotion over it. I will say even using a very small amount used it does...well, moisturize.
Targeting the appearance of pore size, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and loss of firmness - I don't have many wrinkles...yet, but I do have larger pores in some areas and uneven skin tone. I didn't notice a difference but other people did. My face looked healthier and younger. It was almost glowing (and no I do not have any reason to be glowing). The fine lines I do have seemed less pronounced. The larger pores on my nose and chin diminished. And the best part, my "dark spots" faded. I am assuming that is the "uneven skin tone" it is referring to. Either that or my skin suddenly decided to "heal" itself. My skin is still fairly firm so I didn't notice a change in that but the overall appearance and healthiness of my face improved.
Fortified with Vitamin C and peptides to smooth wrinkles and fine lines - Yep, these seemed to work and work well.
As well as licorice and oat extract to soothe skin and minimize the potential for irritation- This I am not sure about. If anything this product made my skin more sensitive to basically everything. My skin isn't sensitive but it is temperamental. I've used the same products for years. Ever since using this my skin is much more reactive to everything I put on it. And by reactive, I mean it gets insanely tingly after I apply anything. It only lasts for a short time but its enough to notice. So I'd hate to think about using this if it didn't have these ingredients to minimize the potential for irritation.
It also doesn't have a weird scent so that is nice. In conclusion, I would totally buy this product again. I would also (and have) recommended it to my friends and family. It is a great, affordable product that actually does what it claims. Give it a try.

The Shadow of a King - C.M. Gray
I am always up for a good retelling of well known story. The Shadow of a King is that and a bit more. Here we follow the life of King Uther after he has united the tribes. Told, of course, by the elder King himself through flashbacks.
I had read Shadowland before and absolutely loved it. I read it not realizing it was the story of Uther, Merlyn, etc. This one, I knew who it was about but it was a wonderful telling of how Uther met his wife Igraine and all the drama before and after. About the conflict with Morgana and why she is so full of hate for her King. We learn so much about young King Uther and why he made some of the decisions that he made. I'm still not sure why he always listens to Merlyn but I am fairly certain he isn't sure either. Regardless Meryln is always there for him, even if he is full of Druid trickery.
This story is full of adventure, violence, deceit, and love. It isn't overly mushy but it does successfully tie in a small love story to offset some of the darker moments. As a whole this is a great book! Anyone who loves the Story of King Arthur and Camelot should definitely take a peak at this one. Its a story about his father Uther and his struggles with being the One True King of the Britons.

So many things to try and review!!!
Ardell Natural Lashes - Make your eyes pop without any makeup! I mean makeup helps but just adding these lovely lashes makes a huge difference.
Secret Clinical Strength Lavender - It smells great but its not really y thing. I don't like feeling sticky and this makes me sticky. Even HOURS after application, I feel sticky. I'd much rather feel dry.
Pantene Expert Intense Hydration - Holy soft hair Batman! My hair has NEVER been so gorgeous. I have color treated hair and spend a lot of times outdoors. While my hair is pretty because I take care of it this made it even better. Its so soft and shiny, its honestly not looked this healthy in years. And this is after I got stuck in the rain and it kind of frizzed out.
Simple Skincare Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes - They feel a little rough on the skin but they do the job. They get all the makeup off. Mascara takes a little scrubbing but not much.
PerfectDetails.com - They have great products. All kinds of unique things to use for a wedding!!!

Death at a Fixer Upper - Sarah Hobart
This was a fun and sometimes silly murder mystery. We have Sam Turner, real estate agent and awesome single mom with some old relationship issues. And then we have everyone else. She is the story teller so it is all about her. But she isn't an "its all about me" kind of character. She is actually all about others, sometimes to her detriment. In the end that is what saves her, her caring and compassion that everyone thinks makes her weak is what makes her successful.
I found this to be a quick and easy read (when I found time to actually read). Sam is relatable. I might not be a single mom but I could feel her struggle. She may have been dealt a bad hand but she raised a wonderful son and seems to genuinely care about others. Even though she should be cut throat to sell sell sell she just can't. She can't in good conscience do something that she knows is wrong, especially if it could harm someone.
It is a wonderful story about the insanity of selling a derelict home with many hidden secrets. Of course when prospective buyers start dying, things go a little sideways for poor Sam. She finds her self in absolutely insane situations, I mean who else gets locked in an office while trespassing and has to jump out of a window. We are led to believe something supernatural is happening but that isn't really the case. The evil in the world isn't of another dimension...it is 100% human. Human(s) who will murder, threaten, harm, solely for their own benefit. But Sam is smart, she does dumb things like run off Bernie, but she is smart. She starts to figure it out. Once that happens the book is really hard to put down.

I love that her kindness to the "bum" is what saves her. All of her business prospects fall apart and then like a knight in shining armor her least prospective person turns out to be the only option. He inherited money. He is an old friend of the deceased owner. He wants to buy this horribly decrepit property and make it his own. Had she not befriended him by being a wonderful person, he may not have gone to her the way he did. She was inspirational to so many. Including but not limited to Max her son and Merritt who was scared to to the right thing for fear of being unjustly punished. Her bug heart and goofy attitude makes this such a fun story.
The ending seemed a tad rushed BUT I am assuming Merritt now has the money or at least a reward to help her and Lily get on their feet. Curly gets his old friends property and will do right by it. Max gets to sort of have a relationship with his estranged father. And Sam gets Bernie, or Bernie gets Sam. As much as she tried to push him away because of her flighty sister she still got the guy, along with the sale, her own home, and a seemingly happy ending.

Mug Shot by Caroline Fardig
Who doesn't love a great murder mystery story? This was a fabulous who done it. I didn't read the first book (I didn't know there was one) but this book was okay as a stand alone. They rehashed enough of what happened in Book 1 to keep me up to speed.
The characters are well developed and the mystery is kept secret VERY well. I can honestly say I didn't see it coming. Juliet made me angry regularly. She is a wonderful person but she makes impulsive decisions and that makes me stabby. Pete seems like a sweetie but their co-dependent thing they have made me crazy. I hated Stan at first but he grew on me. He isn't a great boyfriend but he is a decent person. I adored Savannah. Her southern sayings made me giggle and she was just so likeable. Ryder...oh my. He is a little hot headed but in an almost attractive way. He's a cop so I guess some of the attitude is expected but he CLEARLY cares deeply for Juliet and I just loved him.

Not in a million years did I think "lets kill the main secondary character's girlfriend and blame it on him". I disliked Cecelia from the start but when she died I was shocked. I wasn't shocked Pete took the fall but it really sucked for Juliet. Her obsession with helping Pete while admirable was so annoying. She has a pretty decent thing with Stan, Ryder still wants her, yet she will sacrifice it all for Pete. I know they are friends but their relationship is weird.
I will say this book kept me guessing. I was on the same path as Juliet. I thought it was Stan. I thought it was Kent. I thought it was Bastidas. I even thought it was Abigail. I never thought it was Pete. I agree with Juliet, that isn't his style. But I didn't even consider Savannah. I was floored. I was so involved in this story. I was just like Juliet. When Savannah said the detail about Cecelia's murder, I said "NO WAY" out loud. But she helped her so much trying to clear Pete's name!!! I guess even friendship can't stand the weight of MURDER. Then when she tried to kill Jules. What a B! She was nothing but nice to her and now she is trying to kill her! Clearly this chick has major issues.
I hate that Jules lost her best girlfriend but at least she got her Pete back. That and she is back with Ryder *squee*. That makes me happy. I like them together and I will totally read more of this series.

I wasn't shocked Pete took the fall but it really sucked for Juliet. Her obsession with helping Pete while admirable was so annoying. She has a pretty decent thing with Stan, Ryder still wants her, yet she will sacrifice it all for Pete. I know they are friends but their relationship is weird.
I will say this book kept me guessing. I was on the same path as Juliet. I thought it was Stan. I thought it was Kent. I thought it was Bastidas. I even thought it was Abigail. I never thought it was Pete. I agree with Juliet, that isn't his style. But I didn't even consider Savannah. I was floored. I was so involved in this story. I was just like Juliet. When Savannah said the detail about Cecelia's murder, I said "NO WAY" out loud. But she helped her so much trying to clear Pete's name!!! I guess even friendship can't stand the weight of MURDER. Then when she tried to kill Jules. What a B! She was nothing but nice to her and now she is trying to kill her! Clearly this chick has major issues.
I hate that Jules lost her best girlfriend but at least she got her Pete back. That and she is back with Ryder *squee*. That makes me happy. I like them together and I will totally read more of this series.
I got this book for free from ChatterBox from Random House to read and give my honest review. I think it is a great read for anyone who likes a good Mystery.

Slimfast Vox Box
I received a Slimfast Vox Box from Influenster to try the products and review them. These are my honest opinions.
SlimFast Advanced Nutrition - Vanilla Shake
This is supposed to be a meal replacement shake. I tried it as a breakfast shake. I made sure it was chilled for optimum taste. I couldn't make it more than a few sip/gulps. The flavor was incredibly sweet. Way too sweet for my liking. The taste of the vanilla seemed very fake also. Overall it was not a good experience for me. I refrigerated the left overs and tried them again later in the day, thinking it was just my early morning taste buds misbehaving. But my second try went the same way. I like the idea but I wouldn't be able to force it down. I wouldn't try it again.

This is a 100 Calorie snack. Healthy baked crisps, yes please. But alas, these were not what I expected. The chips were crunchy which I loved. But they were almost too thick. Slightly thinner would have made a wonderful difference. The initial flavor was delightful. It was sour cream and onion, until you swallowed. Then there was this awful chalky aftertaste. It was like a coating on my tongue. I ate about 1/2 the bag before I just couldn't do it anymore. If you are looking to get me not to snack at all, this worked. But if I needed a little filler between meals, I'll just stick to fruit or nuts.
SlimFast Advanced Nutrition - Drizzled Crisps - Cinnamon Bun Swirl
This is another 100 calorie snack. Where the Baked Crisps were savory, these are sweet. Well I would imagine they are sweet. My husband said they were "okay" but asked me not to buy them. I couldn't try them myself because I have a thing about Cinnamon. I can't eat it. Well I can eat it but only if the flavor is virtually undetectable, like in King Cake. Otherwise, this horrible gag reflex thing happens. Something I hate with a passion so if I know or can smell the cinnamon in things, I wont eat them. So I wouldn't buy them but that is more of a me thing not an issue with the actual product.
I like the idea of the products that were sent to me but the textures and flavors of said products were not appealing to me. Therefore I personally wouldn't recommend them.

The Marauders - Tom Cooper
I wanted so badly to love this book. I love reading stories about my hometown/state. And I don't get insulted by the representation. Although the representation in this book was pretty spot on. With that said even with a fairly accurate depiction of life in Southeast Louisiana I didn't enjoy this book.
I kept reading reviews about how creative, funny, and well written is was. Even on the back cover there is a quote from one of my favorite authors (Stephen King), so I thought there is no way this book can fail. I was wrong. For me it was uninteresting, bordering on boring and honestly the writing was just okay. And I didn't laugh...not even a snicker. I am not trying to be a jerk, I really just could not get into the story enough to love it, much less even like it.
The premise is interesting. What happens to a Louisiana still reeling from the destruction of Hurricane Katrina when the BP Oil Spill happens. We are following the lives of shrimpers, a BP middleman who is from the area, criminals, and "drug lords". The story just fell flat. It would start to sort of ramp up and then, blah, nothing. How many times do you have to say Wes blames his father for his mother's death. How many times do I have to be told that Lindquist is a pill popping shrimper missing an arm. How many times must we elaborate on what a waste of space Cosgrove and Hanson are. Oh and did I mention there is all this talk of Jean Lafitte's lost "treasure". This story is a bit all over the place.
I won't go more into detail because I really didn't enjoy it enough to retain much detail. And really there are quite a few details. I hate to be so hard on a book because usually I am a very kind reader but I just can't say much nice about it. We get a decent ending but over all the book is dark with attempts at humor that fall flat.
I give it 2.5 stars. Give it a try if you want, you may like it. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
